As much as we love to stay south in the wintertime, we do love to go north in the summer. Jacksonville, Florida was was miserably hot and humid and when we got a chance to get a load to Wisconsin, we took it. It's a great time of the year to go there. We took a small oversized load to south Milwaukee, right on Lake Michigan. When we arrived, we actually had to get our jackets out it was so cool. It sure felt good to us after what we'd experienced in Florida. One highlight of our trip to Wisconsin was a chance to meet with my highschool friend, Diahann and her husband Glenn. They were good sports and dropped everything at the last minute to come pick us up and have dinner with us in Madison.
The next morning we picked up a load nearby that we took out to Utah. We had plenty of time to get there, even arriving a day early to a nice little town called Heber City in the Wasatch Mountains just east of Salt Lake City. Again, cool temps and good sleeping weather...woowho! .. Not to mention gorgeous views. We got a kick out of the locals who were swimming in the mountain lake in what we figured must have been cold water. I mean the temp up there was in the low 70s.
Good thing we had that little respite of nice weather because from there we decided to head to Las Vegas. Though not humid, it was definately hot! We spent a day at the hacienda with Steve, Francis, and little Emma... and their new puppy Scout. While Jorge was off buying a set of new batteries for the truck, I had a great time swimming in the pool watching Emma show off her new-found swimming skills. I thought 'what a difference a year makes', remembering last year she was petrified of trying to do anything in the pool. Steve said it was more like just two weeks ago that she had an epiphany and it all started to come together for her. She was excited and it was so much fun to watch her. Of course Rocky remembered the pool and was much better this year too. He is not much of a swimmer. Nor does he care for the life jacket I bought him. But as long as I'm holding him, he really seems to enjoy the water. In spite of the heat, we even warmed up the hot tub that night just because. We good time was had by all..!
Yesterday we left Vegas early in the morning to go two hours north up into the desert to pick up a load of some kind of metal bins they use at the landfill up there. It seemed like it took them forever to load us but we finally got done and delivered that load this morning in southern California. This afternoon we are picking up a shipping container that came out of the port in Long Beach and we'll have until Monday to get it up to the St. Louis area. We're ready to get out of here as the southwest is expecting record heat the next few days. It's gonna be a warm ride. It may sound like I'm complaining but trust me, it sure beats the snow and ice!
Next week we are taking most of the week off. Jorge has a flight booked to south Texas where he will visit family and friends both north and south o' the border. Meanwhile, I'm going to hang out in Franklin, Tennessee with my mom and various other family members. What a life we lead!
