It's been a couple weeks from my last post and we definitely mixed work and leisure over that time. We kind of expected we might be in the Tucson area longer than we were but as it turns out, the very next day after we delivered, a load came out of Holloman Air Force Base in New Mexico that needed to go up to Nellis Air Force Base in Las Vegas. We weren't planning a trip back home but it just kind of worked out that way. Fine with us, we had a few things we could take care of once we got there. For example, every two years we have to do a DOT physical in order to maintain our CDL license. Ours was due so we did that and were able to take it right there to the state of Nevada and show them it was done. We didn't have much to do on the truck for a change but the regulator that rolls the drivers window up and down broke while we were there. That was an unexpected $500 to fix that thing... it's always something. We ended up staying in Las Vegas for several days waiting for another load but it was fine with us. We got to see little Emma for most of our trip and visit with Steve and Francis too. We made what surely will be our final trip to the hot tub for the season one night while there. I'm sure the next time we go there it will be sweltering and the pool will be a better option.
Finally back on the road, we took a shipping container full of sporting goods from the port in Long Beach, California over to Nashville, Tennessee and then brought the empty container back to Memphis. While we were near Nashville, we were able to have dinner with my mom and her husband, Joe. It's been since last fall that we had last seen them so she was able to give me a late birthday gift and I was able to give her an early Mother's Day gift. It all works out eventually.
It's been a lovely sunny weekend of cooler temps here in Mississippi as we work our way to our next load and get back to work tomorrow morning. We're doing a load from West Point, MS that we're taking to North Carolina. Following that, a load from east Tennessee that we'll take up to Wausau, Wisconsin. With all the recent snows they've had up there, it's a gamble to head that far north. We are hoping by the time we get there, maybe most of it will be melted. Surely they won't get another snow storm at the end of April, can they??
I've got a lot of pictures to post from our travels. They should tell most of our story.
