Well, so much for our plan to work hard this year. We have not done much driving in the past ten days or so. Once we made our delivery in El Paso, we were stuck there... along with many other drivers waiting for a load. Things kind of ground to a halt as we waited an entire week to get back on the road. Oh there were a few loads available but they didn't pay much and we would have ended up in the middle of nowhere, Idaho or possibly even Calgary, Canada. Both places I would not have minded going to had it been July. But this time of year, there isn't enough money to entice me outta the nice 70 degree temps we enjoyed in Texas. It's a slow time of the year for this type of work anyway and freight out of El Paso is just a slow go anytime of the year. The week wasn't a total loss as Jorge and I were able to get completely thru all of last years receipts, organize them, and add them up for taxes. It's a burden lifted but looking at the numbers is always disheartening when seeing the totals. I mean, almost $90,000 in just fuel?? That is ridiculous!
We finally left Texas a couple days ago, loaded with ATVs to deliver to various locations in Florida. We're spending some time with our friends here in Gibsonton and then tomorrow across the bay to see my sister Linda before she and her husband move to South Dakota, of all places. We still have a few more deliveries to make on Monday where we'll end up in Naples, Florida. We have no idea where we're going from there. So far this winter we've been successful in avoiding all the foul weather we've seen up north. I can't imagine we'll be that lucky in February.
