Yes, greetings from El Paso... STILL! Today is our day to finally leave. In fact, we're waiting to get loaded right now and since they are taking their sweet time doing it, I thought I'd get caught up here before we get way out of range of a good internet signal. Our load of ATVs has five stops on it. The first one will be in Twin Falls, Idaho - about 1100 miles away. We are hoping to be there tomorrow, IF these people could speed up the process a bit here. That means an all night drive thru some pretty barren territory of New Mexico, Colorado, and Utah. It's a beautiful ride during the daytime but during the night, it's just you, the stars, the radio, and lots of wild animals running around out there. Phone and internet signals will be roaming at best.
We rented a car for a few days over the weekend since we knew we wouldn't be going anywhere in the truck. Had our share of good Mexican food and probably spent way too much money for two truckers who were taking a week off. But it was fun in spite of it all. We made a forty mile trip over to Las Cruces, New Mexico on Sunday to attend church there. On our way back to the truck we took the scenic route right along the Mexican border. There isn't too much to see except lots of Border Patrol cars. What a lonely job those poor souls must have, we thought. It was Mexico's Independence Day and we decided to check out downtown El Paso. Apparently one way they love to celebrate is to come across the border to shop at the Texas markets. What a busy place that was!
We were lucky to be here this time of the year. It can be miserably hot here in the summer time but thankfully it wasn't too bad. A couple days in the 90's but here in the high desert, it was chilly at night. Fall is in the air and I hope we see some of it the rest of the week as we move back up north.
This is what bored truck drivers do for kicks. We wanted to get Rocky used to his new socks before he needs them for winter so I put one on each foot, set him at the other end of the truck, and offered him his favorite treat - peanuts. Then Rocky had to endure yet again what we put him through... poor boy!
