It's been an interesting and fun week for us as we have been mixing business with pleasure. We delivered our load in Alabama just before taking a couple days off for the 4th of July. Our next load was to be picked up in Lewisburg, Tennessee which is conveniently located about 30 miles from where my mom lives in Franklin, Tennessee. It had been a long time since we'd been thru there with any time on our hands so we stopped to visit her and her husband, Joe for a couple days. My sister Sandy also lives nearby and we spent the holiday getting reacquainted with her family. As hard as it is to try to stick with a diet while living in the truck, it is impossible to do while being served good home-cooked meals. Mom served up her signature swiss steak which we always love. Add to that the good restaurants we always go to while there and we can pretty much pack the scale away for a few days afterwards. So much for losing weight this week!
We picked up our load Friday morning and we were off to Bloomington, Minnesota with it. We had all kinds of time to deliver and so we spent another couple of days in Winona, Minnesota visiting my stepmom, Gerry and that branch of the family tree. It had been at least last fall since we'd been there. She had gathered a large crowd of family to greet us when we arrived and more delicious food was consumed there. Just by coincidence, my daughter Shari and her hubby, Andy were also there just passing thru on their way back to Chicago and we arrived within about 10 minutes of each other. What are the chances? And...it also happened to be Shari's birthday so that was a fun too.
All good things must come to an end and we're back to work today. We dropped off the load in Bloomington yesterday morning. We quickly found an IRS office nearby there where we had to pay the dreaded annual road tax every truck driver pays this time of year to the tune of $550. If only they would fix a pothole or two with it maybe I wouldn't mind so much! Today we are in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin getting a load of building materials that we should have in Hurricane, West Virginia tomorrow. We shall see where the road takes us from there.
Check out this video I took of one of the songs Shari and Andy entertained us with the evening we spent with them. I'm always happy to see all those trips I made to the violin teacher come to fruition!
