This week we took the scenic route, as we like to do when we have the time, from Rochester, NY over to Northborough, MA. It was quite enjoyable going thru all the quaint little New England towns, villages, and even saw one sign announcing the name of their town as the Hamlet of Oran. First time I’ve been thru a hamlet in quite some time. I figured five days sitting near Boston in February would have been brutal weather-wise. It was surprisingly pleasant as we watched most of the snow go south of us again. From the huge piles of snow sitting in the parking lots, we could tell that we had just lucked out and been there on a good week.
We spent all day Sunday parked in downtown Boston and it was about 1 o’clock in the morning before we finally took off with ‘Dream Girls’ headed for Columbus, Ohio. We had checked the weather map and figured there would be light snow thru New York and Pennsylvania and that it would be heavier the further south we went. It was nice to see the sun come up and dry roads instead. In fact, it was sunny the entire trip… until we were about forty miles from our destination. Suddenly it was like somebody had flipped a switch and turned on the snow blowing machine. It fell hard and fast and before too long, we were at a dead stop on the interstate. We were only thirty miles from the theater but we learned from the CB radio, up ahead not too far was a thirty car pile up and the road was shut down until it was cleaned up. We would have been totally late for our 7pm appointment at the Palace Theater in Columbus except for the fact that the bad weather kept everyone else from arriving too. Nobody from the show was able to make it either – no unloaders, cast and crew, and no head carpenter. For just over seven hours we were stranded on the snowy highway. It wasn’t that bad for us because we carry all the comforts of home but for the cars around us, that must have seemed like an eternity. Don’t you know when the thirty miles of backed up traffic finally started to move and we started up our truck, an alarm went off telling us we had low coolant. That could only mean one thing… a broken hose. Sure enough, there we were trying to make the cracked hose work long enough to limp us in the last thirty miles of the trip while all the traffic was now trying to get around us. It was a miracle that we finally made it safe and sound at our destination.
We plan spend a few days at our house this week as it's only about 90 minutes from here. Except for the 24 hours we spent there just before Christmas, we haven’t seen the place since October. Danny is coming for a little visit and plus we have lots of work to do there since we bought our own semi trailer and plan to fill it with all our belongings. This is 'packing week'. Not that we’re moving to anywhere in particular. We just plan to move from this house. It’s kind of sad for us to own such a nice place and never get to see or use it. We’ve decided everytime we get home from now on, we’re going to use the time to pack up what we can and eventually fill the trailer with our stuff. One day we’ll be our own moving van!

It kind of broke Jorge's heart to see the Budweiser truck off the road in the median. That beer was ice cold. Here's Rocky showing off his brand new winter coat that I found in Tampa of all places. He's a handsome fellow.
