Jorge was a packing fool once we finally got into the house. I mostly walked around the house aimlessly trying to figure where to start. He packed up stuff so good it will take me forever to unpack it, if or when we ever settle down someplace else. We’re not even talking about that now. Except for our bedroom and the garage, the packing is mostly done. We’ll finish that up and hopefully load the trailer on our trip home next week.
We had a nice visit for a couple days with Danny when he drove up from southern Illinois. He was a big help to Jorge with the packing and it was just fun to hang out with him. He’s fresh out of school with two degrees, still unemployed, and in the difficult position of looking for a job in today’s market. Bottom line is he’s got a lot of time on his hands to come visit his mother. We all got together at Mandy’s and Orv’s house one day for family fun as well.
We left Columbus for LA last Sunday night. The weather map looked a little frightening and we were mostly concerned about snow we’d probably end up seeing in Texas and New Mexico. Before we ever got there, the truck broke down just south of Tulsa. I had put a roast and tators in the crockpot to cook and it was past ready to eat at about 4pm. So we stopped at a service plaza on the turnpike for a quick bite to eat and Jorge shut off the truck. It wasn’t long before we finished and Jorge was getting ready to go again. Only when he started to crank the truck, there was nothing. All the power came on but the starter wasn’t even trying to turn over and we’d just replaced it in November. Sure enough, another ride in a tow truck for us and the driver took us back to a repair shop in Tulsa. He made a call ahead to his friend at the shop and told them we really needed to hurry up and get back on the road. All those people were lifesavers and we managed to get a new starter wire put onto the truck in enough time for us to continue the trip. Thanks to them, today we are in Los Angeles enjoying the beautiful day and the snow of last week, and the breakdown of this week are just bad memories.
Happy Birthday to me!
