The past couple days have been like an episode of Wild Kingdom…
As I was driving thru Oregon one night, in the shadows just off the side of the road, I saw what I thought was a huge deer. I told Jorge, who was sitting back in the sleeper, to come and check it out. Before he could get there to look, the big ‘deer' raised his head and I saw that it was NOT a deer but a huge moose grazing just off the shoulder. I was so glad he stayed put as we passed him by and we didn’t have to turn him into moose jerky.
I had another close encounter with other wildlife this afternoon. Again, I was driving and passing another semi-truck when lo and behold, there was a mama duck with a whole bunch of babies crossing the interstate in front of us. The other truck tried to avoid the little family by moving to the shoulder but was mostly unsuccessful. Meanwhile, the mother duck decided to fly away and she hit our big ol’ passenger mirror and broke it to bits. Just like that, we were out $700. Can you believe those things are that expensive?
Finally, we finally arrived in Denver tonight and were just getting settled in for the night when Rocky started knocking his food bowl around. That means he wants me to fill it. We had thought it was a nice enough night to leave the a/c off and get some fresh air, so we left the windows opened up a little bit. When I got up and turned the light on to find Rocky’s food, a bat flew into the truck!! I flew out just as quickly while Jorge tackled the bat and got rid of him. Needless to say, the windows are now rolled up tight so I can get some good sleep tonight.
This weekend we are picking up “Young Frankenstein” in Denver and taking it over to San Francisco.
