What a great mother’s day I had! I don’t need flowers or gifts but I actually got to spend time with all three of my children this weekend - a treat that doesn’t happen very often. Watching Mandy graduate from law school was the icing on the cake. That’s gift enough for me!
We finished up with our work in Indianapolis and from there it’s a quick ninety minutes back to Union, Ohio where our house is. We’d gotten reports from our renters/buyers that there were a couple water leaks especially around the front door and we thought since we were that close, we’d better check it out. After inspecting it for ourselves, we had a guy come and do some caulking and we’re hoping that solves any further issues for us. We felt lucky to be able to get that taken care of.
As long as we were in town, we had our regular mechanics do an annual DOT inspection for us. It’s a good thing we did that because they discovered a leak on the fuel pump. Sure enough, the gasket was leaking diesel fuel but we decided to go ahead and replace the pump too while he was in there. The trip to the mechanic shop wasn’t a total loss though. We also store our semi trailer full of all our belongings on their lot. The owner told us since we’re some of his regular customers, he’d cut us a deal on our rent space for the trailer. Instead of the $80 a month we had been paying, he said he’d take $50 cash per month for his ‘beer money’ and call it even. A small savings but it will add up over time. Not bad for storing both our 48’ foot trailer and our car there.
The next few days after that, I spent in Lebanon, Ohio with my daughter Mandy and her husband, Orville. Jorge, meanwhile, headed back to Denver to get in place for our Denver to San Francisco move this weekend. It was my turn for some time off. My daughter, Shari, arrived from Chicago on Friday with her two dachshunds – Kirby and Daisy. They joined Mandy’s two weenies, Hank and Elvis, and the doggie fun ensued. The four of them got along great though and provided a lot of entertainment not to mention snuggles and wet nose kisses. So not only did I spend time with the kids, but also the four ‘grandweenies’, as I like to refer to them. Danny arrived late on Friday with their dad, Mark and stepmom, Karen. Since he just started his new job a month ago, he hadn’t accrued any vacation time off and they got a late start. A lot of preparation and work was put into a nice graduation party that Mandy and Orville hosted after the graduation Satuday. The graduation – or hooding ceremony – as it was called, was very nice and probably the last one for my kids. After all, what else is there left to do? I’m the proud mother of two lawyers and two engineers – in only three kids. Mandy falls into both categories. We are all so blessed and I am thankful for answered prayer!
I caught an early Sunday morning flight back to Denver and rejoined Jorge and Rocky in the truck. Both were happy to see me. After cleaning up their bachelor pad and fixing Jorge’s attempt at doing the logbooks, I got things back to normal and that should be the end of our solo trips for awhile. We do function better as a team, for sure. We loaded up a show called, ‘In the Heights ’ in Denver Sunday night and are on our way to San Francisco.
