We sneaked in and out of Miami in the dead of night, dropped our trailer, and left for New Orleans this week. Or so we thought. We hadn’t gotten too far in Florida when our dispatcher called and said they could really use us in Chicago instead. So much for the best laid plans. We had been looking forward to our trip to New Orleans and staying in the south but back up north we went.
It all worked out for us as we were able to spend the night with my daughter Shari and her husband, Andy. They made Jorge’s night with a trip to an authentic Mexican restaurant that was so good we went back the next day for lunch. They also have two weenie dogs of their own so Rocky wore himself out again playing with his city nephew and niece, Kirby and Daisy. Their trips outdoors means a walk thru the hallway to the service elevator, down five flights, another walk thru the parking garage, and finally… bushes and trees! Sunday morning we went to church with Shari where she plays the organ in one of those big old gothic-looking stone churches. She is an amazing organist and can really made those pipes sing. Thoughts of taking her to her first piano lessons crossed my mind while listening to her play that old organ with four different keyboards. It all seems to come so natural for her but I know how much work she has put into honing her craft. I’m inspired to get my keyboard out of storage and figure out a way to carry it with us on board the truck. Of course it’s something I could only do when we were stopped for a day or so, which we often are. I think I will do that once we get to the storage trailer and get rid of all our winter gear. Then I’ll have room for something like that.
Driving in downtown Chicago is always a challenge due to low clearances, tight turns, and lots of pedestrians and traffic. Jorge did an outstanding job backing into another one of those little hole-in-the-wall places we pick up at. I stood on the corner and made a video of it - see it below. We left there yesterday and are delivering today in Boston. It poured down rain the whole trip over here and even snowed by the time we got to Massachusetts. I knew it was too good to be true that our winter driving was over. Here we are on the first day of spring with snow on the ground. It’s a tough thing to do after seeing the south in bloom this week. We’re heading right back down there though as we pick up next Sunday’s show in Nashville.
It was one of those unusual weeks where I got to see both of my girls in the same week. I had my camera with me but never took any pictures of us. I'm a horrible mother! I'll just have to post pictures of our time in Chicago. These all blow up bigger if you click on them.
