It was a quick trip we made this week from Newark, Delaware to Phoenix, Arizona - and yes, it was cooler in Arizona than Delaware when we got there. We left on Saturday afternoon and delivered it two days later on a Monday afternoon… over 2400 miles in all. We kept it going pretty much non-stop except for a visit with friends in Porum, Oklahoma. Tom and Mary used to drive with us at Clark Transfer but retired this past Christmas to settle down on twenty acres they bought and are improving out ‘in the sticks’. They’ve been busy working on a unique project of building themselves a home from three old shipping containers. Except for the extreme summer heat that’s kind of slowed them down for now, they’ve made a lot of progress over the past months and hope to be living it by this fall. It’s a really neat idea, I think. They plan to pile the dirt around it to make it nearly underground when they are finished. That will make it tornado-proof and keep it more of a constant temperature inside. I’ve been watching the building unfold on a blog Mary writes about the progress of it. You can read about it here if you are interested in seeing more of it. http://myshippingcontainerhome.blogspot.com
After Phoenix, we had to be in LA but decided to run up to Las Vegas and pick up the mail and run some errands, etc… We ended up spending five days there this week. I’m beginning to look like a prune for all the time I’ve spent in the pool. My little niece Emma was there and provided entertainment for us on a few days. She’ll be three next month and has become quite a little talker. Most of it is understandable, some of it – not so much. It was a fun time but we’re back on the road now.
Today we are in Los Angeles, California. We pick up a show tonight called ‘Les Miserables’ and will be delivering it tomorrow afternoon in Portland, Oregon. After that hot week in Vegas, we are so looking forward to the cooler northern temps up there.
This trip marks the end of an era for us with Clark Transfer. We’ve hauled shows around the country with them for over four years but this week we will be ‘switching gears’, so to speak. After much deliberation, we’ve decided to change to another company and will doing something completely different. We bought our own flatbed trailer this week and will be driving over to Kansas City to pick it up. Then on to Louisville, Kentucky where we will go thru a couple days of orientation with a company called Mercer Transportation. They move a lot of stuff for the military as well as any other thing one can carry on a flatbed trailer. Like I said – it’s all new to us. So stand by for news and wish us luck on our new venture!
Here's a video of little Emma explaining what her daddy does for a living.
