No problems on our trip to Hartford this week. Until we got into Hartford, that is. The Bushnell Theater is directly across the street from the Connecticut state capitol building and the streets were still parked up with cars from the workers. So parking was an issue. The other problem we ran into – literally- was the snow. Because we couldn’t park in the usual alley near the loading dock with it being parked up with cars, we decided to find a spot in the street and take up one lane of traffic while we waited for 5pm and the workers to go home and take their cars with them. We normally do a loop around the block to find parking but due to the tremendous amount of snow still on the streets of Hartford, it was very difficult to make turns with our truck and trailer. The turn we needed to make in order to just get to our parking spot was completely blocked by a big pile of snow. We were forced to go straight and ended up in the busy hustle and bustle of downtown Hartford trying to get turned around and back to the theater. On one corner as we were making a right turn, the front corner of our truck hit a pile of snow – which had turned to ice but felt just like concrete when we hit it. Needless to say, the truck lost that battle and we now have a ding on the front corner of our truck. Another trip to a shop is in our future.
With that experience behind us, we couldn’t get out of that part of the country fast enough. We zoomed down to Florida and warmer weather. I’m relaxing today while Jorge is creating work for himself in the form of cleaning out his toolbox, wiring lights, spray painting things, etc … Our to do list consists of a visit with my sister Linda tomorrow. We’re still hoping to put our toes in the beach sand since it was too cold a couple weeks ago when we were here and possibly a sunset on the gulf would be nice too if it works out that way.
Our mission this weekend… we’ll pick up a show called ‘Billy Elliot’ in the wee hours of Monday morning and head west to Houston by Tuesday.

We've seen many state capitol buildings around the country but this is one of my favorites in Hartford, Connecticut.
This monument is called the Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Arch. It was built in 1886 in honor of Hartford's contribution to the Civil War. The lighter band just over the arch depicts scenes from the Civil War. I saw where they give free tours to the top of it so I will put that on my list of things to do in Hartford when the snow melts. You can see the capitol dome just to the right of it.
Rocky didn't mind the snow since it was hard enough to walk on. Every once in a while one of his little legs would poke thru the crusty top but for the most part, he loved it. Here he is modeling his new sweater... not pink as it looks in the picture - but lavender with hearts on it for Valentine's Day.
Here's a new picture of my sweet little niece, Emma. She's two and a half now and loves to walk her dog, Charlie in Las Vegas.
