Immediately after finishing that trip, we went back to Salt Lake City to pick up another load that had us heading south. We drove all night and mostly straight thru down to Green Valley, Arizona - just south of Tucson. I was kind of bummed out that it was night and we were missing some of the most scenic Utah countryside near Bryce Canyon and Zion National Parks. It had been a few years since we'd traveled that road and I was lamenting the fact we weren't able do it in the daylight. However, because it was night, one thing we did see on that road was quite memorable. I was driving while Jorge and Rocky were sleeping. It got to be about two o'clock in the morning out there and I was getting sleepy too so I decided to stop for a quick nap. Finding a place to park along a two lane road like that can sometimes be a challenge but as I rounded this curve around a mountain, I saw a welcome sign indicating there was a scenic overlook ahead. The truck in front of me had decided that was a good place to park and so I thought it worked for me just fine too. We both stopped and shut off the engines and our lights and though it was pitch black and perfectly silent outside, the view was incredible. I had gotten out of the truck to check the load - making sure it was riding okay and that the straps were all still nice and tight. It was then I looked up and saw the night sky like I'd never seen it before. Above me on that clear night was the most beautiful canopy of stars I had ever seen. I even woke Jorge up so he could enjoy it too and he stuck his head out the window for a look in his sleeping stupor, slightly less impressed than I was! However, it was truly indescribable and something I will never forget. It wasn't the 'scenic overlook' they intended for you to see when they made that parking spot but it was an amazing sight to see. We delivered that load later in the day at a copper and gold mine just south of Tucson. Needless to say, I was looking at the rocks real hard while out of the truck walking Rocky while we were there but my search for a gold nugget came up empty.
Now that we're loaded up with all this winter stuff, we are spending the weekend here in Tucson where the high temp yesterday reached 98 degrees. There wasn't a load available that we could get to in time before the start of the weekend and so that means a couple days off here for us. That suits us just fine and we'll see what adventures come our way again on Monday.
